Achim Lidsba

Achim Lidsba (born March 4, 1955 in Breinum ) is a major general a. D. of the Army of the German Armed Forces and was commander of the Command Academy of the German Armed Forces in Hamburg until 31 August 2016 .

Military career

Training and first uses

After graduating from the Roswitha-Gymnasium in Bad Gandersheim , Lidsba joined the Bundeswehr in 1973. By 1977, he graduated in the armored infantry troops , the officer training and was promoted to lieutenant . From 1977 to 1981 he was first employed as a platoon leader and then as an intelligence officer ( S2 ) in the Panzergrenadierbataillon 341 (later 62) in Wolfhagen . During this time he was promoted to first lieutenant .

From 1981 to 1985 Lidsba was deployed twice as a company commander in Panzergrenadierbataillon 52 in Rotenburg an der Fulda and was promoted to captain during these assignments .

Service as a staff officer

From 1985 to 1987 Lidsba completed the national general staff course at the command academy of the German Armed Forces in Hamburg and was then promoted to major . From 1987 to 1989 he was deputy head of department for military communications (G2) in the staff of the I. Corps in Münster under the command of Lieutenant General Dieter Clauss and Jörn Söder .

This was followed by an assignment abroad in Brussels , where Lidsba served from 1989 to 1992 as a consultant for military policy on the staff of the German Military Representative at the NATO Military Committee, Lieutenant General Rolf Hüttel . When Hüttel was transferred to the Federal Ministry of Defense in Bonn in 1992 to take on the post of head of the planning staff, he took Lidsba with him as a speaker. After Hüttel was replaced four months later, Lidsba served until 1994 as a speaker under Hüttel's successor, Vice Admiral Ulrich Weisser .

From 1994 to 1996 Lieutenant Colonel Lidsba led the 323 Panzer Grenadier Battalion in Schwanewede . In 1994 he returned to Hamburg to serve at the leadership academy until 1996 as a tutor and lecturer for troop leadership in the Army General Staff course. In 1998 he was transferred to Koblenz and served in the Army Command there until 2000 as a group leader for operations (G3) under the command of Lieutenant General Rüdiger Drews . In this role he was also on assignment abroad in Kosovo .

In 2000 Lidsba moved again to the Federal Ministry of Defense in Berlin, where he was employed as head of division in the military-political staff department in the command staff of the armed forces (FüS III) under the chief of staff , Major General Egon Ramms and Rear Admiral Wolfram Kühn . Here he was responsible, among other things, for the military-political preparation and accompaniment of armed deployments of the Bundeswehr, cabinet decisions and referrals of the German Bundestag as well as coordination with NATO , EU , United Nations and partners.

Service in the rank of general

With the appointment of Brigadier General , Lidsba took over command of Panzer Brigade 14 from Wolfgang Brüschke in Neustadt in 2005 , which he led until July 12, 2007. He handed this command over to Colonel Theodor Herkel , who now only commanded the brigade as brigade leader and directed its dissolution. During this deployment, Lidsba was deployed abroad again, this time from November 2005 to April 2006 as the commander of the 9th German contingent in Afghanistan as part of ISAF .

From 2007 to 2010 Lidsba was again deployed to the NATO Military Committee in Brussels, where he served as Deputy Head of Service and Chief of Staff of the German Military Representatives, Vice Admiral Frank Ropers and Lieutenant General Jürgen Bornemann .

On June 21, 2010, Lidsba finally took over command of the 13th Panzer Grenadier Division in Leipzig from Major General Reinhard Kammerer . The then Federal Defense Minister Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg promoted Achim Lidsba to Major General on June 30, 2010 in Berlin.

From July 14, 2011 to August 31, 2016, Lidsba was commander of the command academy of the Bundeswehr in Hamburg. He handed over command to Flotilla Admiral Carsten Stawitzki and was retired.

Private

Lidsba is married and has three sons. One of his sons, Christian, is the guitarist for the band Stanfour .
