Breinum coat of arms
Blazon : “On red next to an unleafed silver thie-tree, which is visible up to the beginning of the branches,a bareheaded silver man in an open long linen smock and high-heel boots , who as a sign of his judicial office holds a golden stick in his raised right hand anda rolled on his body in his left holds a silver certificate with a gold seal. "
Foundation of the coat of arms: During the Middle Ages, Breinum was the meeting place of a free ring. In memory of this fact, the place has developed this coat of arms, which the mayor and the municipal council unanimously elevated to the symbol of the municipality.

Culture and sights

  • In the Heimatstube Breinum, pictures, documents, household appliances and toys from the last centuries are exhibited.
  • In the center of the village stands the Marienkirche, first mentioned in 1207, with its late Romanesque west tower. The church nave from the late Gothic period was renewed in 1794. Inside, in addition to the baroque baptismal angel, the wooden pulpit altar, which was made in 1722/28 by the Bockenem sculptor Johann Heinrich Fahrenholz, and the wooden ceiling painted in 1747/48 by the Hildesheim painter Schulze are particularly noteworthy.
  • On the southern edge of Breinum, the Breinum stop on the disused Elze – Bodenburg railway line , also known as the "Almetalbahn", has been preserved.
