Location of Groß Düngen in Lower Saxony

St. Cosmas and Damian

Groß Düngen is a district of Bad Salzdetfurth , Lower Saxony . It is located in the Innerstetal southeast of the district town of Hildesheim on the B 243 .

history

The first documentary mention is from the year 1085. Until the end of the ecclesiastical principalities, the village belonged to the Kleiner Hildesheimer Stift and is therefore one of the Catholic monastery villages . This is particularly evident in the baroque parish church of St. Cosmas and Damian from 1733, the tower of which also shows the local coat of arms. At the beginning of the 20th century, Groß Düngen had 732 inhabitants and had a sugar factory, a dairy, a brickworks and a machine factory.

The independent municipality of Groß Düngen was merged with some neighboring villages to form the joint municipality of Düngen in 1966 . This came (with the exception of Egenstedt and Marienburg ) on March 1, 1974 to Bad Salzdetfurth.

On the high altar are two wooden figures from the Gothic period , which represent the two namesake of the church. A memorial plaque for Joseph Müller was placed under the pulpit.
  • On the main street, the Iburg half-timbered house, built in 1780 and renovated in 1988, is well worth seeing, also known as the old half-timbered house . It is named after one of the previous owners. It houses a local museum, and numerous cultural events take place here.
  • The Groß Düngener Christmas market, which takes place every year on the 3rd Sunday in Advent, is known far beyond the borders of Groß Düngen. Exquisite handicrafts are offered here.
