Joseph Hillebrand

Heinrich Joseph Hillebrand (born August 24, 1788 in Groß Düngen (near Hildesheim), † January 25, 1871 in Bad Soden am Taunus ) was a German philosopher , writer, literary historian and politician in the Grand Duchy of Hesse .

biography

After completing his studies, Joseph Hillebrand was a teacher at the Josephinum Hildesheim from 1812 to 1815 , converted to the Protestant faith in 1816 and was briefly court master in Belgium. In November 1817 he was appointed associate professor at the University of Heidelberg , and on February 8, 1818 he received his doctorate as Dr. phil. with Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel , whose successor he was briefly in Heidelberg. In 1818 he was Badischer Councilor and director of high school in casting as well as a full professor of philosophy at the local university . Later he was dean of his faculty. In 1850 he lost his professorship as a liberal politician.

In addition to historical novels and stories, he mainly published philosophical and literary writings.

Joseph Hillebrand is the father of the legal scholar Julius Hubert Hillebrand and the essayist Karl Hillebrand .

politics

Joseph Hillebrand was elected to the second chamber of the state estates of the Grand Duchy of Hesse for the constituency of the city of Gießen in 1847 and was president of the chamber from 1847. In 1848 he was a member of the preliminary parliament . After the March Revolution he was from 1849 for two state parliament sessions for the constituency of Upper Hesse 14 / Friedberg. In the following electoral period from 1851 to 1956 he represented the electoral district Rheinhessen 2 / Stadt Mainz in parliament. From 1862 to 1865 he was again (this time for the constituency of the city of Offenbach) a member of the second chamber. He represented clear liberal positions in the state parliament .
