Ludwig Ewald

Ludwig Wilhelm Ewald (born August 25, 1813 in Offenbach am Main , † January 22, 1881 in Darmstadt ) was a Hessian civil servant and politician and a member of the 2nd Chamber of the Estates of the Grand Duchy of Hesse .

Ludwig Ewald was the son of the merchant Friedrich Wilhelm Ewald (1778-1825) and his wife Susanne Margarethe, née Strecker (1788-1873). Ewald, who was a Protestant, married Karoline Henriette, née Schleiermacher (1818–1889), on June 29, 1839, the daughter of Ludwig Schleiermacher, the chief building director in Darmstadt.

Ewald was a senior finance chamber secretary in Darmstadt. From 1837 to 1844 he had a subsidiary position as secretary of the coin deputation. In 1838 he became secretary of the senior construction management. From 1846 he was 3rd secret secretary at the Ministry of Finance of the Government of the Grand Duchy of Hesse . In 1849 he was promoted to senior tax council and member of the senior tax and customs directorate. In 1862 he was given the title of a Secret Chief Tax Council and in 1873 a Privy Councilor . In 1871 he became director of the Obersteuerdirektion and in 1876 chairman of the central office for state statistics , for which he published the contributions to the statistics of the Grand Duchy of Hesse . In 1879 he retired.

From 1856 to 1862 he was a member of the Second Chamber of the Estates. He was elected for the constituency of the city of Offenbach .
