Johann Friedrich Schenk (born June 17, 1790 in Darmstadt , † June 26, 1868 in Bad Wildungen ) was a liberal Hessian politician and former member of the 1st and 2nd Chamber of the Land estates of the Grand Duchy of Hesse .

family

Friedrich Schenk was the son of the President of the Court of Appeal and Cassation (Johann) August Schenck (1744-1806) and his wife Johannette Margarethe Reinhardine nee Schleiermacher (1747-1813). Friedrich Schenck married his wife Charlotte, the daughter of the Offenbach factory owner Ferdinand Fleischmann and his wife Wilhelmine Antoinette, née Pfaltz , on July 8, 1819 in Offenbach am Main . His brother Ernst also became a member of the state parliament.

education and profession

Friedrich Schenk studied law and became assessor at the court court in 1811, court judge in 1817 and judge of higher appeals and cassation in 1839 . In 1850 he was appointed to the State Council and in 1861 was awarded the title of Privy Councilor .

politics

From 1829 to 1830 Schenck was elected to the second chamber of the states for the constituency of Starkenburg 11 / Umstadt , and from 1832 to 1833 for the constituency of the city of Offenbach. From 1847 to 1849 he was again (this time for the constituency Starkenburg 6 / Lorsch) a member of the second chamber. After the March Revolution , a change in the electoral law was forced, after which the first chamber of the estates was freely elected. In the first (and only) free election of the first chamber, Friedrich Schenck was elected to the first chamber. The broad liberal majority in parliament elected him President of the First Chamber. With the dissolution of parliament in 1850 after the victory of the reaction , he left the state parliament. In 1850 he was the representative of the Grand Duchy in the state house of the Erfurt Union Parliament .
