Otto Graf zu Solms-Laubach

family

Otto came from the noble family Solms-Laubach . He was the son of the President of the Province of Jülich-Kleve-Berg Friedrich zu Solms-Laubach (1769-1822) and his wife Henriette, born von Degenfeld-Schomberg (1776-1847). His brother Reinhard (1801-1870) became a Prussian major general .

Life

He attended the Friedrich-Werdersches Gymnasium in Berlin and the universities in Bonn and Berlin . Otto zu Solms-Laubach succeeded the rulership in 1822. From 1826 to the March Revolution of 1849 and from 1851 to his death in 1872, he was a member of the first chamber of the estates as a registrar. In 1829/30 and 1851/56 he was president of the first chamber, after having been vice-president in 1844/49 (and again in 1856/66).

In 1848 he was a member of the preliminary parliament . As a result of the March Revolution, a new electoral law had been passed that abolished the prerogatives of the class and provided for free election of the first chamber. In 1867/69 he was a member of the Reichstag of the North German Confederation , where he joined the parliamentary group of the Old Liberal Center . In November 1869 he resigned from the Reichstag.

During his studies in 1819 he became a member of the old Bonn fraternity / general public .
