Reinhard Graf zu Solms-Laubach (born August 11, 1801 in Laubach , † October 29, 1870 in Braunfels ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

Reinhard was the son of the President of the Province of Jülich-Kleve-Berg Friedrich zu Solms-Laubach (1769-1822) and his wife Henriette, born von Degenfeld-Schomberg (1776-1847).

Military career

Solms joined the Guard Hussar Regiment of the Prussian Army on June 1, 1822 and was promoted to Second Lieutenant by mid-February 1823 . At the end of May 1828 he took his leave to enter Russian service . Solms took part in the fighting for Shumen during the Russo-Turkish War in 1828/29 and in the siege of Warsaw in 1830/31 during the Polish-Russian War . For his behavior at Sticona he was awarded the Order of St. Vladimir IV Class.

On July 2, 1833, Solms was employed again in Prussian services as a major without a patent and initially aggregated to the 7th Uhlan Regiment . At the beginning of February 1836 he received the patent for his rank . On April 7, 1842, Solms was appointed wing adjutant to King Friedrich Wilhelm IV and promoted to lieutenant colonel on March 22, 1843 . Left in this position, he was commissioned on July 1, 1843, initially to lead the 5th Uhlan Regiment and on January 16, 1844, Solms was appointed regiment commander. After his promotion to colonel , he became commander of the 8th Cavalry Brigade in Erfurt on August 24, 1848 . For a short time from October 10, 1848 to September 17, 1849 he was again serving as the king's wing adjutant. He was then appointed commander of the 13th Cavalry Brigade in Münster . Solms married on October 20, 1836 with Ida Princess zu Isenburg-Büdingen (1817–1900). She was a daughter of Prince Ernst Casimir I of Ysenburg and Büdingen .
