Friedrich Ernst (Solms-Laubach)

Friedrich Ernst zu Solms-Laubach (born March 26, 1671 in Wildenfels , † February 26, 1723 in Laubach ) was a ruling count from the House of Solms-Laubach , Reichshofrat and President of the Reich Chamber of Commerce.

Friedrich Ernst was the son of Johann Friedrich Graf zu Solms and Tecklenburg (1625–1696) and his wife Benigna née Countess von Promnitz (1648–1702). He married on December 8, 1709 Gedern Friederike Charlotte Countess of Stolberg-Gedern (born April 3, 1686, Gedern, † 10 January 1729 in Laubach), the daughter of Ludwig Christoph Graf zu Stolberg-Gedern . The marriage resulted in twelve children, most of whom died young. Three children survived. Friedrich Magnus Graf zu Solms-Laubach (1711–1738) succeeded his father as ruling count. The second son was the subsequent Count Christian August zu Solms-Laubach (1714–1784). The daughter Marie Sophie Wilhelmine Duchess of Württemberg (1721–1793) married Karl Christian Erdmann, Duke of Württemberg on April 8, 1741 in Laubach .

Career

He was first brought up by private tutors. In 1685 he traveled to Utrecht , but had to return after nine months because of the death of his mother. He then continued his studies in Strasbourg , but had to flee from there in 1688 after the French had occupied the city. From 1689 to 1691 he studied in Leipzig . After various intermediate steps, Friedrich Ernst traveled to Vienna and became a member of the Reichshofrat on April 29, 1693 . After the death of his father he was ruling count from 1696 to 1723. He worked 1699–1723 as Protestant President of the Reich Chamber of Commerce . In 1700 he was appointed to the Imperial Privy Council .
