Johann August Schenck (born December 26, 1744 in Braubach ; † November 12, 1806 in Darmstadt ) was President of the Darmstadt Court of Appeal .

August Schenck was the son of the Hessian privy councilor and top civil servant of the rule Eppstein , George William Schenck (1708-1765) and his wife Christiane Dorothea, born Thoma (1725-1758), daughter of the Chamber Council in Wiesbaden, Johann Christoph Thoma.

August Schenck, who was a Protestant denomination, married Johanna Margarethe Reinhardine, née Schleiermacher , on October 6, 1771 in Darmstadt (born September 15, 1747 in Alsfeld, † December 22, 1813 there), the daughter of the doctor in Lauterbach Dr. med. Carl Schleiermacher and Sophia Gebhard. The brother-in-law, Ernst Christian Friedrich Adam Schleiermacher (1755–1844) became a secret councilor and minister.

The marriage had six children:

  • Louise Philippine Schenck zu Schweinsberg (1775–1831), married Wilhelm Freiherr Schenck zu Schweinsberg (1772–1827), colonel in Darmstadt, on May 19, 1798 in Darmstadt
  • Johannette Margarethe Wilhelmine Pretlack (1779–1804), married Karl von Pretlack (1769–1830) on August 30, 1801 in Darmstadt, on Echzell, Rittmeister, Oberforstmeister in Darmstadt
  • Ernst Philipp Engel Schenck (1782–1846), Privy Council of War, Privy Council of State
  • Georg Christian Schenck (1785–1857), winery owner and wine merchant in Kelsterbach, member of the Hessian state parliament
  • Johann Friedrich August Schenck (1788–1875), director and 1859 President of the Grand Ducal Hessian Forest and Domain Directorate
  • Johann Friedrich (Fritz) Schenck (1790–1868), President of the State Parliament

education and profession

August Schenck studied law. He entered the service of the Landgraviate of Hessen-Darmstadt and became a real secret councilor. From 1804 to 1806 he was director of the Darmstadt Court of Appeal.
