Franz Arnold Freiherr von Biegeleben (born November 1, 1822 in Darmstadt ; † December 3, 1892 ibid) was a Hessian diplomat and politician and a former member of the Second Chamber of the Estates of the Grand Duchy of Hesse .

Life

family

Arnold von Biegeleben was the son of the real secret councilor Kaspar Josef von Biegeleben and his wife Maria Anna, née von Braumann. Of his six siblings, Maximilian (1813–1899) became Hessian finance minister and Ludwig (1812–1872) was in the service of Austria's opponent Bismarck .

Biegeleben married Agnese Amalie Louise Auguste, née Freiin von Löw zu Steinfurth (1835–1902), a daughter of the MP Wilhelm von Löw zu Steinfurth on November 14, 1853 . He was catholic.

Career

Biegeleben was an accessist at the Secretariat of the Ministry of Home and Foreign Affairs. In 1850 he became Legation Secretary, 1852 Ministerial Secretary, 1856 Lagation Councilor and 1861 Secret Lagation Councilor. From 1861 to 1866 he was the Hessian envoy in Berlin and at the Bundestag in Frankfurt am Main . He retired on October 5, 1866 and was appointed to the State Council on December 29 of the same year. In the 20th electoral term (1868–1872) Biegeleben was a member of the Second Chamber of the Estates of the Grand Duchy of Hesse . In the state estates he represented the constituency Starkenburg 11 / Heppenheim . On February 7, 1873 he was finally retired at his request.

Kransberg Castle

Biegeleben bought Kransberg Castle at auction in July 1874 , carried out extensive renovations and expanded the castle into a castle in the neo-Gothic style that was popular at the time.
