Ferenc Seres
Ferenc Seres (born November 3, 1945 in Ujkecske , Tiszakécske , Bács-Kiskun County ) is a former Hungarian wrestler . He won a Greco-Roman style bronze medal in paper weight at the 1980 Olympic Games .
Career
Ferenc Seres, who belonged to the sports club Haladas Szondy Sportegyesület (SE) , owed the introduction of the weight class of paper weight by the International Wrestling Federation (FILA) in 1969 that at the age of 25 he still made the leap into the Hungarian and little later even made it into the international top class of wrestlers in his weight class. Until 1968 the army member wrestled in the flyweight, but achieved no results there. At a height of 1.53 meters, he had no particular problems during his entire career in creating the weight limit for the paper weight class, which was 48 kg body weight.
Ferenc Seres had his first success in paper weight in 1970 when he became the Hungarian champion in this weight class in free style. In 1971 he became the first Hungarian master in the Greco-Roman style and from then on only used this style.
In 1971 he started for the first time at an international championship, the World Championship in Sofia . He proved it with victories over Jaroszek from Poland a . Matsuda from Japan , a draw against Stefan Angelow from Bulgaria and a defeat against Günter Maas from the Federal Republic of Germany a good 6th place.
In the following years he started to 1976 regularly in the World and European Championships, winning the World Cup in 1973 in Tehran , at the European Championships 1975 in Ludwigshafen and at the European Championships in 1976 in Leningrad each a bronze medal . He achieved this at these championships u. a. Victories over Constantin Alexandru from Romania , Raimo Hirvonen from Finland , Dietmar Hinz from the GDR a. Stefan Angelow from Bulgaria .
At the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich , Ferenc Seres came after a victory over Bernd Drechsel from the GDR and defeats against Gheorghe Berceanu from Romania a. Stefan Angelow only came in 9th place. He performed even worse at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal , where he lost to Alexei Shumakov from the USSR and Michael Farina from the United States and therefore only finished 13th.
After the Olympic Games in 1976, he ended his international wrestling career, but still wrestled on a national level. 1979 Ferenc Seres made a comeback attempt on the international wrestling mat, which also succeeded, although he was already 34 years old at the time. The best results at international championships, which he achieved from 1979, were a 4th place at the world championship of that year in San Diego , where he won over Alfredo Olvera from Mexico and Ju Jin-park from South Korea a . Losses against Constantin Alexandru and Alexei Schumakow , USSR narrowly missed a medal and winning the Olympic bronze medal at the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow . He won there over Roman Kierpacz from Poland , Alfredo Alvera u. Reiji Haaparanta from Finland and lost to Saksylik Uschkempirow from the USSR and Constantin Alexandru.
Ferenc Seres continued his international career in 1981 and achieved 6th place at the 1981 European Championships in Gothenburg and at the 1981 World Championships in Oslo .
Ferenc Seres won the last Hungarian championship title in 1985 at the age of 40.
