Roman Kierpacz

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Roman Kierpacz (born February 5, 1961 in Siemianowice Śląskie , Silesian Voivodeship ) is a former Polish wrestler . He was vice world champion in 1987 and European champion in 1980 and 1985 in the Greco-Roman style in paper and flyweight.

Career

Roman Kierpacz started wrestling at the age of 10. He was a member of the GKS Katowice sports club and trained as an electrician. In the club he was trained by Stanislaw Turos, Jan Adamaszek and Antoni Masternak. Stanislaw Krzesinsiki joined the national team as a coach. He wrestled exclusively in the Greco-Roman style. As an adult, he started out at a height of 1.56 meters in paper weight (up to 48 kg body weight), but grew into flyweight (up to 52 kg body weight) from 1981.

Roman Kierpacz, a brilliant technician, physically and mentally strong, began his international wrestling career with successes in the junior area. In 1978 he was at the Junior European Championships (Espoirs) in Oulu in paperweight behind Totju Andonow from Bulgaria and Timor Taimuras Kasaraschwili , USSR. In the same year, at the age of 17, he started at the World Championships for Seniors in Mexico City, where he also won a bronze medal in the paper weight category . He won it over Salih Bora from Turkey , the vice- world champion from 1977 and Todor Guntschew from Bulgaria, while he was defeated against Yoshiteru Horiwaki from Japan and Constantin Alexandru from Romania .

In 1979 he started at the European Seniors Championships in Bucharest , where he won over Dietmar Hinz from the GDR and Vincenzo Maenza from Italy . He lost to Constantin Alexandru and Anatoli Bosin from the USSR and came in 5th place. In the same year he started at the junior world championship in Haparanda in flyweight and came in 3rd place behind Benur Paschajan from the USSR and Nikolai Widow from Bulgaria.

In 1980 Roman Kierpacz celebrated the first major success of his career at the European paper weight championships in Prievidza . With victories over world champion Constantin Alexandru , Uwe Baumann, GDR , Freddy Scherer , FRG , Saksylik Uschkempirow , Soviet Union and Totju Andonow from Bulgaria, he sensationally became European champion and with Saksylik Uschkempirow also defeated the soon-to-be Olympic champion from 1980 in this weight class. At the European Junior Championships (Espoirs) in Bursa shortly thereafter , he started again in the flyweight division and had to be satisfied with 5th place there. He also experienced a great disappointment at the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow , where he lost to Ferenc Seres from Hungary and Saksylik Uschkempirow and ended up only in 8th place.

After his final move to flyweight, Roman Kierpacz started at the World Championships in Oslo in 1981 . There he managed only one victory over the local hero Jon Rønningen . He lost against Lajos Rácz from Hungary and Ljubomir Zenkow from Bulgaria and finished in 7th place. In 1982 he was only at the European Championships in Varna, where he took 3rd place behind Benur Paschajan and Marian Stefan from Romania and thus won another medal.

He took the same place at the 1983 European Championships in Belgrade . Here he placed behind Lajos Rácz and Sergei Djudajew from the USSR. He referred Mladen Mladenow from Bulgaria and Constantin Alexandru to places 4 and 5. At the 1983 World Cup in Kiev it was only enough for him to place 5, which means he missed a medal. 1984 was a bad year for Roman Kierpacz. Because of an injury he could not take part in the European Championship and he could not take part in the Olympic Games in Los Angeles because of the boycott of these games by the Eastern Bloc countries at that time.

It was therefore more than just a consolation for him that he again became European flyweight champion in Leipzig in 1985 . He referred Misait Tasetdinow from the USSR, Valentin Krumow from Bulgaria, Tibor Jankovics from Czechoslovakia and Mihai Cişmaş from Romania to the places. At the 1985 World Cup in Kolbotn near Oslo he defeated u. a. Bernd Scherer from the Federal Republic of Germany , but a defeat against Jon Rønningen threw him back to 5th place.

1986 was almost the same as 1985. Roman Kierpacz was not at the start at the European Championships and at the World Championships that year in Budapest he only came in 6th place. Sergei Djudajew won there ahead of Jon Rønningen. He was very successful again in 1987. He finished that year first at the European Championships in Tampere behind Andrij Kalaschnykow from the USSR and Csaba Vadász from Hungary, and in the autumn of this year he was in Clermont-Ferrand behind the Cuban Pedro Roque Favier was even Vice World Champion . He left Alexander Ignatenko from the USSR, Serge Robert from France and Valentin Krumow from Bulgaria behind.

In 1988 Roman Kierpacz then tried to win a medal at the Olympic Games for the second time. In Seoul he managed only a 5th place in the flyweight category behind Jon Rønningen, Atsuji Miyahara from Japan , Lee Jaek-suk , South Korea and Alexander Ignatenko.

Then Roman Kierpacz ended his international wrestling career. He went to the Federal Republic of Germany and fought there for many years for KSV Germania Aalen in the German Bundesliga. After finishing his career as an active wrestler, he worked as a youth coach at KSV Aalen and lived in Wasseralfingen .
