Andrii Kalaschnykov
Andrij Mykolajowytsch Kalaschnykow ( Ukrainian Андрій Миколайович Калашников ; born November 20, 1964 in Kiev ) is a former Soviet or Ukrainian wrestler . He was European champion in 1987 and 1996 as well as bronze medalist at the 1996 Olympics in the Greco-Roman style flyweight.
Career
Andrij Kalaschnykow appeared for the first time in 1987 at an international wrestling championship. He started for the Soviet Union at the European Championships in Tampere in Greco-Roman style. Until then he was completely unknown in wrestling circles outside of the Soviet Union. Before Tampere he will have followed the path of all top wrestlers in the USSR: early recognition of his talents, intensive support and training in one of the performance centers of the Soviet Wrestling Association.
In Tampere he showed his great ability and immediately became European champion. In the final he defeated Csaba Vadász from Hungary with a 14: 4 techn. Points. Nevertheless, in the next few years it was only used at the 1989 European Championships in Oulu . He came there in the flyweight but only on the 5th place. Its competitors in the USSR and the Commonwealth of Independent States (1992) were primarily Alexander Ignatenko , Oleg Kucherenko and Alfred Ter-Mkrtchyan .
After the collapse of the Soviet Union , Andrij Kalaschnykow started working for Ukraine in 1993 . There he belonged to the sports club Kolos Kiev and was trained by VT Bertschuk and Nikolai Korol. His first start for the Ukraine in an international championship he made at the European Championships in 1993 in Istanbul . In the flyweight he fought his way up to the final, in which he beat the Azerbaijani Natiq Eyvazov , who was cheered on frenetically by the Turkish audience, just 0: 2 techn. Was subject to points. The 1993 World Championships in Stockholm were disappointing , because there he was eliminated early and only came in 10th place in the flyweight division.
At the European Championships in Athens in 1994 Andrij Kalaschnykow missed the medal ranks with a 5th place, which he fought for with a superior victory over Valentin Rebegea from Romania . At the World Championships this year in Tampere he made it back to the "podium". After a defeat in the semifinals against Natiq Eyvazov, he defeated Elgian Sarkis from Greece in the battle for a bronze medal in the World Cup .
At the 1995 European Championships in Besançon , he came in 3rd place. He fought for this place with a victory over Samwel Danijeljan from Russia. He was not at the start at the 1995 World Cup.
In 1996 Andrij Kalaschnykow celebrated his second victory in an international championship at the European Championships in Budapest . With a win in the final with 4: 1 techn. Points over Armen Nazarjan from Armenia , he won his second European title after a break of nine years since winning his first title. It was Armen Nazarjan who destroyed his dream of an Olympic victory in the first fight at the Olympic Games this year in Atlanta, because Nazarjan defeated him with a technical 10-0. Points. Despite this declassing defeat Andrij Kalaschnykow did not give up and fought his way through victories over Pappu Yadav , India (11: 0), Valentin Rebegea (3: 1), Alfred Ter-Mkrtchyan (3: 0), Jordan Andrew, Bulgaria (5: 0) and Samwel Danijeljan (4: 1), in between there was another defeat against Dariusz Jabłoński from Poland (5: 8), but still the Olympic bronze medal in the flyweight division.
In the following years, he participated in international championships until 2000, Andrij Kalaschnykow failed to win a medal. With a 4th place at the European Championships in Minsk in 1998 , here he lost a. a. against Oleg Kutscherenko from Germany and a 4th place at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney , where he competed for the bronze medal against Kang Yong-gyun from North Korea with 0: 7 techn. Lost points, but he came close to the medal ranks.
