Wahan Juharjan
Wahan Dschuharjan , ( Armenian Վահան Ջուհարյանին ; born January 26, 1978 ) is an Armenian wrestler . He was the 2004 European Champion in the Greco-Roman style featherweight.
Career
Wahan Dschuharjan began wrestling as a teenager in 1983. He was a member of the sports club to Aiastan Gyumri . His coach there was Walik Vardanyan. He focused entirely on the Greco-Roman style. Wrestling is a widespread sport in Armenia . The competition is therefore very strong there for every wrestler. Wahan Dschuharjan was one of the dominant wrestlers in Armenia in his style and weight class (flyweight, then up to 54 kg body weight).
He began his international career at the 1996 World Junior Championships in Wałbrzych, Poland . He came there in flyweight on the 5th place. In 1997 he was one place better at the European Junior Championships in Istanbul . He came in 4th place there. Wahan Dschuharjan then caused a big surprise at the World Seniors Championships in 1997 in Wroclaw , because he fought his way there in flyweight with victories over Nick Zagranitschni from Israel , Zigmunds Jansons from Latvia and Marian Sandu from Romania up to the final, in which he from the Turks Ercan Yıldız just 1-0 techn. Points was defeated. The runner-up world title was a great success for him.
In the following years, Wahan Dschuharjan could not confirm this success, with a few exceptions. So he came at the 1998 European Championships in Minsk with wins over Vitali Cheban from Moldova and Joakim Söderman from Sweden and defeats to Andrij Kalaschnykow from Ukraine and Ercan Yıldız, against whom he was again with 0: 1 techn. Points, to 9th place. He did even worse at the 1998 European Junior Championships in Tirana , where he only came in 13th place. 1999 came Wahan Dschuharjan at the European championship in Sofia in the flyweight after defeat against Samuel Danijeljan , an Armenian compatriot starting for Russia and Serhij Sobokar from Ukraine only on the 17th place. He was then not used at the 1999 World Cup. At the European Championships in Moscow in 2000, he was also unable to place in the front field. He was twelfth there in bantamweight. He did not start at the Olympic Games in Athens in 2000.
In 2001 he took part again in the European Championships, which took place in Istanbul and reached 7th place in bantamweight, while he was absent from the World Championships that year.
Then Wahan Juharjan went to Sweden , where there is a large Armenian community. He starts there for the sports club Spårvägens BK Stockholm . In 2004 he became the Swedish lightweight champion. This year, after a two-year break, he was used again for Armenia at an international championship, the European championship, which took place in Haparanda / Sweden. Supported by the strong Armenian community, he managed to become European champion in featherweight with victories over Eusebiu Diaconu , Romania , Aleksej Djakonow, Lithuania , Lascha Lomadze, Georgia , Emik Bunjamin , Turkey and Davor Štefanek from Serbia-Montenegro . He did not take part in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens .
In 2005 he started for Armenia at the World Cup in Budapest . He came there in featherweight to victories over Dawit Bedinadze , Georgia and Joseph Warren , USA , but lost against Ali Ashkari Agboloag from Iran and against Eusebiu Diaconu and finished in 5th place.
In 2007 Wahan Dschuharjan finished 2nd at the Swedish championships in lightweight behind Robert Rosengren. In 2008 and 2009 he was again the Swedish lightweight champion. He also took part in several international tournaments in Scandinavia and the Baltic States with great success .
