Career

Valentin Krumow was a member of the army and started as such for the Levski-Spartak Sofia sports club . He only wrestled in the Greco-Roman style and always started with a height of 1.64 meters in the flyweight class, the weight class that had its weight limit of 52 kg in its time.

He made his debut on the international wrestling mat at the Junior World Championships (Espoirs) in 1983 in Kristiansund , Norway . He finished there in the flyweight behind Sergei Sabeijworota from the USSR a . Jukka Loikas from Finland took an excellent 3rd place.

In the senior class he had very tough competition in Bulgaria, one of the best wrestling nations in the world. But he still managed to get starting positions in the international championships from 1985. In 1985 he took part in the European Championships in Leipzig , where he won an EM bronze medal in the flyweight category, right behind Roman Kierpacz from Poland and Minsait Tasetdinow from the USSR .

In 1986 he was used at the World Championships in Budapest . There he defeated u. a. German silver medalist in 1984 in the paper weight Markus Scherer (: techn 1 points. 14), but failed in the final with a fourth place behind high for points Sergei Djudjajew , USSR champion Jon Rønningen , Norway and the Olympic champion from 1984 Atsuji Miyahara from Japan just about the medal ranks. In 1987 Valentin Krumow became Bulgarian champion. He did not get any medals at the 1987 European Championships in Tampere and at the 1987 World Championships in Clermont-Ferrand , but he still did well there with fourth and fifth places. The fight for the European Championship bronze medal in 1987 in Tampere he lost against Roman Kierpacz just 4: 6 techn. Points.

In 1988, 1989 and 1990 he was only used at the European Championships in Kolbotn , Oulu and Posen . The reason for this was that he was injured before the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul and therefore could not start there and that from 1989 Bratan Zenow switched from paper weight to flyweight and pushed him to second place in flyweight in Bulgaria . Valentin Krumow won the European Championship bronze medal at each of these championships . In the fight for this medal, he defeated Mihai Cişmaş from Romania , Tibor Jankovics from Czechoslovakia and Csaba Vadász from Hungary .

After a somewhat longer break, Valentin Krumow took part in a European championship again in 1993 in Istanbul , where he came in 5th place in the flyweight division.
