Timor Taimuras Kasarashvili
Timor Taimuras "Temo" Kasaraschwili (* 1959 ) is a former Soviet wrestler of Georgian descent. He became world champion in the Greco-Roman style in 1982 paper weight.
Career
Temo Kasarashvili began wrestling as a teenager in what was then SSR Georgia . Further details are not known. But he wrestled exclusively in the Greco-Roman style and throughout his entire career always in paper weight, the lightest weight class that had its weight limit of 48 kg body weight.
In 1978 he became the Soviet junior paperweight champion ahead of Kamil Fatkulin and Gennadi Tainkin. In the same year he started at the Soviet senior championships, but only came in 6th there. In 1978 he was used for the first time at an international championship, the Junior European Championship (Espoirs) in Oulu . He reached the final there, in which he was defeated by the Bulgarian Totio Andonow and thus came in 2nd place. He celebrated an even greater success at the Junior World Championships (Espoirs) in Haparanda in 1979 , because there he was Junior World Champion ahead of Freddy Scherer from the Federal Republic of Germany and Uwe Baumann from the GDR .
Although there was a wide range of top wrestlers in both styles and in all weight classes in the Soviet Union at that time, it only took Temo Kasarashvili two years to establish himself at the forefront of senior citizens in the Soviet Union . His main competitors were Vasili Anikin , Anatoli Bosin , Sergei Suvorov , Saksylik Uschkempirow , Ivan Samtajew and Magyatdin Allachwerdijew .
In 1981 Temo Kasaraschwili became student world champion in Bucharest . In the final, he defeated the multiple world and European champion Constantin Alexandru from Romania . In the same year he also became known in the Federal Republic of Germany , because he competed in the Grand Prix of the FRG in Aschaffenburg and came in 3rd place behind Totio Andonow and Wieslaw Kucinski from Poland .
1982 Temo Kasarashvili was Soviet champion and used at the World Championships in Katowice . There he succeeded in becoming world champion ahead of Salih Bora from Turkey and Bratan Zenow from Bulgaria . In 1983 he also competed in the World Cup. In Kiev , however, he could not defend his title because he was defeated in the pool final against Bratan Zenow. He took 3rd place behind Zenow and Markus Scherer from Germany, defeating Fumikazu Sasaki from Japan in the fight for 3rd place .
In 1984 Temo Kasaraschwili came in the Soviet championship behind Magyatdin Allachwerdijew on the 2nd place. Allachwerdijew was therefore used at the European Championships. Temo Kasaraschwili was at the start again at the Grand Prix of the FRG in Aschaffenburg. He won there ahead of Markus Scherer , N. Onica, Romania and Ferenc Seres from Hungary . The Soviet wrestlers were denied a start at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles this year because the Soviet Union boycotted these games.
Temo Kasaraschwili then completed his last appearance at an international championship at the 1985 European championship in Leipzig . He won there over Jens Genssler from the GDR and Jarmo Vesterinen from Finland and was again defeated in the pool final against Bratan Zenow . He won the battle for the bronze medal against Csaba Vadász from Hungary .
