Georg Ferdinand Rudolf Freiherr von Wedekind (born September 17, 1825 in Darmstadt ; † October 1, 1899 there ) was a Hessian politician and former member of the 2nd Chamber of the Estates of the Grand Duchy of Hesse ( German Progressive Party , NLP ) and the Reichstag .

Georg von Wedekind was the son of the forester Georg Wilhelm Freiherr von Wedekind and his wife Wilhelmina Margarethe, born (von) Schubert. His grandfather was the doctor and revolutionary Georg von Wedekind , his brother the state parliament member Wilhelm von Wedekind . He married his wife Henriette Magdalena, née Merck, daughter of the pharmacist and founder of the pharmaceutical company Merck , Emanuel Merck, in Darmstadt on June 18, 1849 . Georg von Wedekind was Protestant.

education and profession

Georg von Wedekind studied at the University of Giessen Law and graduated in 1846 with the promotion of Dr. jur. from. He worked as a lawyer, was attorney at court in Darmstadt in 1854 and retired in 1879. A direct hit in the lottery made him financially independent at an early stage.

politics

Georg von Wedekind was from 1862 to 1866 for the constituency Starkenburg 7 / Höchst member of the state parliament. In 1870 he replaced the resigned MP Rudolph von Stockhausen as a representative of the constituency of the city of Friedberg again in the state parliament and left the state parliament in 1872. As a replacement for Philipp August Gebhard and this time the constituency Rheinhessen 9 / Ober-Ingelheim, he was a third member of the state parliament from 1874 to 1878.

From 1871 to 1874 he was a member of the Reichstag . He represented the constituency of the Grand Duchy of Hesse 2 (Friedberg) and belonged to the national liberal parliamentary group in the Reichstag.
