Ernst Elwert (politician)

Ernst Georg Wilhelm Elwert (born January 13, 1788 in Dornberg (Hesse) , † March 1, 1863 in Darmstadt ) was a Hessian landowner and liberal politician and member of the 2nd Chamber of the Land estates of the Grand Duchy of Hesse .

Ernst Elwert was the son of the government councilor Anselm Karl Elwert and his wife Luise, née Rank. Elwert, who was Protestant, married Henriette nee Schrimpf (1794–1878) in 1813 and her second marriage Johanna Regine nee Röchel (1802–1875).

Ernst Elwert became an official assessor in the office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1810. In 1821 he became district assistant in the district of Dornberg (his father was district administrator there), later first assessor with a vote in the Darmstadt government. In 1824 he was a member of the government and in 1832 a councilor at the Darmstadt Chamber of Accounts. In 1848 he was a member of the preliminary parliament . Between 1849 and 1862 he was a member of the fire insurance commission and special director for the Aachen and Munich insurance companies . In 1856 he was appointed chief accountant and in 1861 he retired.

From 1826 to 1833 and again from 1848 to 1849 he was a member of the Second Chamber of the Estates. He was first elected for the constituency Starkenburg 2 / Groß-Gerau and then in the constituency Starkenburg 10 / Breuberg.
