Arnold Bergsträsser (born October 5, 1841 in Breuberg , † January 5, 1897 in Darmstadt ) was a Hessian politician ( NLP ) and a former member of the 2nd Chamber of the Estates of the Grand Duchy of Hesse .

family

Arnold Bergsträsser was the son of the Erbach-Schönberg rent clerk and member of the Hessian state parliament Friedrich Bergsträsser (1800–1847) and his wife Anna, née Camesaca. Arnold Bergstrasse, who was of Protestant faith, married Johanna Louise Marie Anna née Diehl (1843-1893) in Darmstadt on September 8, 1868, and on September 9, 1895 in Munich, her second marriage was Erna née Brandlis.

education and profession

Arnold Bergstrasser initially did military service, became a lieutenant in the 1st Grand Ducal Hessian Infantry Regiment No. 115 on May 20, 1859 and first lieutenant on June 16, 1866. On April 16, 1867, he was retired from military service.

In 1865 he studied engineering at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich , where he founded the Teutonia fraternity in 1865 together with a few fellow students .

He worked as a bookseller and publisher in Darmstadt. From 1855 to 1888 and from 1892 to 1897 he was a member of the Exchange Association of German Booksellers in Leipzig and President of the Publishers and Booksellers Association.

In the 26th and 29th electoral period (1887-1896) Arnold Bergstrasse was a member of the second chamber of the state estates of the Grand Duchy of Hesse. In the state estates he represented the Starkenburg 3 / Höchst electoral district in the Odenwald in the 26th and 27th electoral periods . In 1891 he left the state parliament (his successor was Karl Scherer ), but in the same year he moved to the chamber for the constituency of the city of Darmstadt (as successor to the late Albrecht Ohly ). He was a city councilor in Darmstadt.
