Friedrich Küchler (born November 16, 1822 in Darmstadt , † January 15, 1898 in Darmstadt) was Provincial Director of the Province of Rheinhessen and an honorary citizen of Mainz .

family

Küchler came from an old Hessian civil servant family. His father Georg Karl Küchler (1773–1854) was a member of the government, his brother Ernst Ludwig was a grand ducal tax council, his half-brother Friedrich was a member of the state parliament and state councilor and his nephew Wilhelm Küchler was mayor of Worms and finance minister of Hesse. The mother, Johanna Marie née Friederich, was the father's second wife.

On July 21, 1856, he married Emilie Elisabethe Georgine Wilhelmine nee Krug (1827–1915) in Darmstadt , daughter of the court president and member of the state parliament Georg Krug .

Life

Küchler studied law at the Universities of Giessen and Heidelberg , where he was a member of the Corps Teutonia and Saxoborussia . In 1856 Küchler became secretary of the Oberstudiendirektion in Darmstadt, 1858 district assessor there, 1867 district councilor in Dieburg , 1874 provincial director of the Starkenburg province in Darmstadt, 1874–77 president of the central office for agriculture and the agricultural associations and president of the agricultural association of the Starkenburg province.

On September 1, 1881, he was appointed provincial director in Mainz as the successor to Ludwig Roeder von Diersburg , and from 1885 onwards with the character of a secret council. In addition, he served as a Hessian unable magnificent territorial commissioner for the imperial fortress Mainz . Because of differences of opinion with the Minister of the Interior about his administration, he said goodbye in 1891, but was appointed President of the Hessian Administrative Court in the same year.

From 1872 Küchler was a member of the National Liberal Fraction of the second Hessian Chamber for the constituency Starkenburg 3 / Höchst (until 1887). In the elections to the Reichstag he was defeated as a candidate for the Center Party of Hesse . From 1893 he was a lifelong member of the I. Chamber of the Hessian Estates. During his official activity in Mainz, he was chairman of the local branch of the German Colonial Association (forerunner of the German Colonial Society ).

Küchler was extremely popular. As a member of the state parliament, his commitment led to the construction of the Mainz road bridge (today Theodor-Heuss-Brücke ). He had also made great contributions to the expansion of the city . In the press he was celebrated as the "father of the Hessian self-government". The city of Mainz made him an honorary citizen in 1891.
