Konrad Fuchs (historian)

Konrad Fuchs (born January 11, 1928 in Gebhardshain ; † August 22, 2015 in Mainz ) was a German historian .

Life

Fuchs studied history , English , prehistory and early history and philosophy in Mainz and Leeds , England. He received his doctorate in 1954 and passed the state examination for teaching. Until his habilitation in 1968, he worked as a teacher for English and history at grammar schools in Speyer and Mainz, among others. From 1971 to 1993 he was professor for modern history, historical regional studies and social and economic history at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz . Fuchs was chairman of the Society of Friends of East German Historical and Folk Research in Rhineland-Palatinate. He was a member of the Johann Gottfried Herder Research Council . He became a member of the New York Academy of Sciences in 1996 . Fuchs wrote articles for the Biographisch-Bibliographische Kirchenlexikon (BBKL).
