Bindura is the capital of the Mashonaland Central Province in Zimbabwe , 88 km northeast of Harare . It is located at over 1,000 m above sea level on the Great Dyke and on the Harare- Shamva road and railroad . It is a mining town of 42,861 people (2012 census) where copper , nickel and cobalt are mined and smelted by companies such as Bindura Nickel Corporation Limited . The corresponding manufacturing industry is located here. Anglogold Ashanti mines 51.091 ounces of gold in the Freda-Rebecca mine near Bindura per year (2003, at that time US $ 268 / ounce world market price, in 2006 over 450). The reserves of this mine were then estimated at 300,000 ounces.

The infrastructure in Bindura is intact and the supply of water, electricity and telephone is reliable. Bindura has a full school system and the University of Science and Technology .

Bindura is a stronghold of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC).
