Wilhelm Langenbach

Wilhelm Jakob Langenbach (born January 3 (or January 4) 1841 in Worms , † September 21, 1911 in Darmstadt ) was a Hessian manufacturer and politician ( Liberal People's Party ) and a former member of the 2nd Chamber of the Estates of the Grand Duchy of Hesse . He was one of the few members of the Jewish faith in the state parliament.

family

Wilhelm Langenbach was the son of the businessman Bernhard Langenbach and his wife Therese nee Nass. He married his wife Betty née Josephsson (1845–1902) on August 18, 1869. His daughter Therese Robinsohn was a translator and writer.

education and profession

Wilhelm Langenbach worked as a merchant and manufacturer (straw hat factory A. Rosenthal & Cie.) In Darmstadt. In 1904 he was appointed to the Commerce Council.

politics

In the 32nd electoral term (1902–1903) he was a member of the second chamber of the state estates of the Grand Duchy of Hesse. In the state estates he represented the constituency of the city of Darmstadt . In 1903, Dr. Friedrich Buff his successor.

Besides Franz Bamberger , Wilhelm Langenbach was the only Jew in the state parliament. He was a member of the Central Association .
