Ferdinand Gail

Georg Karl Ferdinand Gail (born July 19, 1826 in Gießen ; † October 23, 1885 ibid) was a Hessian tobacco manufacturer and politician and member of the 2nd Chamber of the Land estates of the Grand Duchy of Hesse .

Ferdinand Gail was the son of the tobacco manufacturer Georg Philipp Gail (1785–1865) and his wife Marie Susanne Johanette, née Busch. Gail, who was of Protestant faith, married Karoline Luise Elisabeth Friederike Auguste née Drescher (1831–1870) on July 22, 1852 in Gießen . Their son Wilhelm continued the family business.

He was a tobacco manufacturer in Giessen and a partner in the Gail'schen cigar factory .

From 1862 to 1865 he was a member of the Second Chamber of the Estates. He was elected for the constituency of the city of Giessen . He was also a city councilor in Giessen.

Gail's villa

In 1866 he had the Gailsche Villa built at Wilhelmstrasse 16-20 in Giessen by the architect Hugo von Ritgen . The manufacturer's villa, which was the seat of the American military authorities during the occupation, is a listed building .
