Georg Schmitz (politician, 1819)

Carl Georg Schmitz (born June 19, 1819 in Mainz ; † September 8, 1879 ibid) was a Hessian lawyer and politician and a member of the 2nd Chamber of the Estates of the Grand Duchy of Hesse .

Georg Schmitz was the son of the businessman Christian Carl Schmitz and his second wife Marie Ottilie, née Jung. Schmitz, who was a Catholic, married Anna Maria Elisabeth nee Schwarz.

Schmitz studied law at the University of Giessen from 1837 to 1840 . In 1842 he was promoted to Dr. jur. PhD . From 1860 to 1865 he was chief inspector at the fire insurance company Moguntina.

From 1849 to 1856 he was a member of the Second Chamber of the Estates. He was elected for the Mainz constituency.
