Franz Jöst

Franz Jöst (born December 12, 1851 in Mackenheim, municipality of Abtsteinach ; † May 11, 1921 in Mainz ) was a Hessian politician ( SPD ) and a former member of the 2nd Chamber of the Estates of the Grand Duchy of Hesse and the Reichstag .

Franz Jöst was the son of the farmer Peter Jöst and his wife Margarethe, née Schmitt. He attended primary school in Ober- Abtsteinach and trained as a carpenter in Weinheim from 1867 to 1869 . Later he worked as a wood cutter. A stay in South America followed from 1882 to 1883. From 1883 he was an independent manufacturer of the groin moldings in Mainz. He was married twice: with his first wife Gertrud, née Pfeifer and with his second wife Gertrud, née Link.

politics

Franz Jöst was a member of the SPD from 1874 and was elected to the Hessian state parliament together with Carl Ulrich in 1885 as the first social democrat. In the state parliament he represented the constituency of the city of Mainz until 1896 . From 1890 to 1896 he was also a member of the Reichstag and from 1892 to 1896 city councilor in Mainz.
