Johann Baptist Falk (in official documents Johann Falk III. ) (Born September 13, 1825 in Mainz ; † January 5, 1905 ibid) was a German politician, publicist and member of the Hessian state parliament of the Center Party .

Live and act

Johann Falk was born as the son of the master butcher Johann Baptist Falk II and his wife Anna. Kessler born in Mainz. He also learned the butcher's trade and was actively involved in the city's Catholic cultural and club life. In 1848 he became a member of the local Piusverein , as its delegate he attended the 2nd German Catholic Day in Breslau in 1849 . Both there and at the subsequent Catholic Days and other major Catholic events, Johann Falk acted as a speaker. In 1861 the craftsman initiated the construction of a journeyman's house in Mainz and donated a large sum for it. In 1863 he founded the city's Catholic Association (also known as the Catholic Casino ) in accordance with the resolution of the Aachen Catholic Convention from the previous year, and in 1864 he bought a large clubhouse with a meeting room. At the same time he founded a (still existing) Catholic publishing house with the publicist Franz Sausen (1810–1866), which Falk took over in 1873 and therefore gave up his butchery profession. Today the company operates under the name of Johann Falk III. Sons GmbH .

In 1875, Johann Falk was elected for the electoral district Rheinhessen 8 / Ober-Olm (22nd and 23rd electoral periods) or the electoral district of the city of Mainz (24th and 25th electoral periods) as center member of the second chamber of the Hessian state parliament , which he held until 1885 belonged to. His successor in the state parliament was Franz Jöst (SPD).

At the German Katholikentag in Constance in 1880 he acted as vice-president. In 1885 Johann Falk founded a Franciscan convent in the Neustadt district of Mainz with a sum of 60,000 guilders, from which today's St. Bilhildis Senior Citizens' Foundation emerged. Pope Pius IX awarded the Mainz man the Knight's Cross of the Papal Order of Gregory .

Falk was married to Antonie Maria Kirstein from Mainz, they had several children, including Jean Falk . The former mayor of Bonn , Johannes Nepomuk Maria Falk (1882–1964), was her grandson.
