Karl Georg Bockenheimer

Karl Georg Bockenheimer (born August 6, 1836 in Mainz ; † November 28, 1914 there ) was a grand-ducal Hessian district court director, member of the state parliament , Mainz historian and local writer who published mainly on Mainz.

Life

Karl Georg Bockenheimer was the son of the private employee Jakob Karl Bockenheimer and his wife Klara Elisabetha nee Dienst. Karl Georg attended the Grand Ducal Gymnasium in the new Kronberger Hof. After the school leaving examination, which he passed with an "excellent", he studied law and graduated in 1856 with Dr. jur. from. In 1866 he was second substitute at the state procurator at the Mainz district court , in 1868 first substitute at the same court. In 1876 he became the first examining magistrate at the Mainz District Court for three years and in 1879 he was a councilor at the Regional Court for the province of Rheinhessen . In 1892 he became the district court director.

As an autodidact, Karl Bockenheimer presented publications that dealt primarily with the history of the city of Mainz , in particular the French periods and the revolutionary years 1848/49 , the Mainz bishops , the Mainz hospices , and the Mainz university in 1784 . Among many others he was the author of the biographical reference work Allgemeine Deutsche Biographie . In 1902 he became a member of the Academy of Charitable Sciences in Erfurt .

Since 1907 he was an honorary citizen of the city of Mainz . His estate is in the Mainz City Archives .

Karl Bockenheimer, who was a Catholic, married Adele Marie Therese Belluc, the daughter of his superior, in 1867. The marriage lasted barely a year, as his wife died unexpectedly at the age of 24. On September 4, 1872, he married Anna Martha Josepha Wittmann (called Anny), the daughter of the Mainz doctor Joseph Ignaz Wittmann, in Mainz Cathedral . From this marriage there were four children.

Karl Georg Bockenheimer died at the age of 78. his grave is in the main cemetery in Mainz .

In the 23rd electoral term (1878-1880) Karl Bockenheimer was a member of the second chamber of the state estates of the Grand Duchy of Hesse. In the state estates he represented the constituency of the city of Mainz . After his resignation, Arnold von Jungsfeld succeeded him .
