In 1808 Lauteren, who belonged to the Citoyens notables , i.e. the bourgeois elite, in the French Mayence , founded the "Gesellschaft Casino Hof zum Gutenberg" together with like-minded people. Their activities and events were the focus of social life in the first decades of the 19th century.
