Östrum is a southern district of the city of Bad Salzdetfurth in Lower Saxony . The state road L490, which here intersects with the L493 , runs through the village . Direct neighbors are Breinum in the west and Bodenburg in the south.
history
In 1885 a sugar factory was founded in Östrum, which in 1902 had its own siding on the railway line to Lamspringe, which was inaugurated in 1900. The sugar factory was of great importance for the economic development of Östrum until it was closed in 1974. Until 1941, Östrum and Bodenburg formed an exclave of the state of Braunschweig in the Hanover region. Due to the regional reform, Östrum became one of 13 districts of the city of Bad Salzdetfurth on March 1, 1974.
politics
The mayor is Angelika Pöhlmann (SPD).
Culture and sights
- The quarry stone chapel is said to have been built around 800 and is the landmark of the place. Possibly there was a Germanic thing site in their place. Originally the chapel, presumably built in the Romanesque style, was consecrated to St. Mary Magdalene, after the Reformation it was given to the Protestants. Since it has loopholes and was built on a hill - possibly artificially piled up - it is assumed that it may have served as a fortified church at times. The year 1711 can be found above its portal, which may refer to a conversion or renovation. When the chapel was renovated in 2005, frescoes from the 12th and 13th centuries were discovered. The altar dates from the end of the 17th century, the altarpiece was painted in 1677. The chapel, in which there is a wooden donor coat of arms from 1676, has a gable roof with a roof turret . A tent roof was erected on the small apse of the chapel .
The frescoes inside the chapel, discovered in 2005, are currently not visible because they were given a protective layer and then repainted, as no financial means were available for their restoration or renovation at the time of their discovery. There are around 50 seats in total in the chapel.
Economy and Infrastructure
Immediately on the eastern edge of Östrum is the Bodenburg terminus of the Lammetalbahn , from which Hildesheim can be reached every hour on weekdays and every two hours on Sundays and public holidays. Buses run from the stop via Östrum and Breinum to Lamspringe and Bockenem .
