Alexei Alexandrowitsch Mordaschow ( Russian Алексей Александрович Мордашов ; born September 26, 1965 in Cherepovets, northern Russia ) is a Russian entrepreneur. He is CEO of the Severstal company and General Director of the Severstal Group . The business magazine Forbes estimated his fortune in 2018 to 20.5 billion US dollars , making it the fourth place on the list of the richest Russians occupy.

biography

Until 1988 Mordashov studied at the Togliatti University of Economics and Technology in Leningrad . There he met the future Russian Prime Minister Anatoli Tschubais , who was teaching at that university at the time.

After completing his studies, Mordashov took a job at the Cherepovets Metallurgical Combine. There he worked in administration and later rose to become deputy head of the planning staff.

In 1992, in the early days of the privatization of Russian state-owned companies, Mordashov became economic and financial director of the metallurgical combine, which was soon converted into the joint stock company OAO Severstal . The general director of the combine, Yuri Lipuchin, hired Mordashov to carry out the privatization of the company. The then 27-year-old Mordaschow then founded a subsidiary called Severstal-invest , 24% of which belonged to the combine and 76% to himself. In its name he then bought the shares in the metallurgy plant and thus gained control of the company .

Since 2000 Mordashov has been a member of the Russian-German government commission for strategic cooperation in the field of economics and finance.

On October 5, 2007, Mordashov signed an agreement on long-term cooperation in the development of the Russian turbine manufacturer Silowyje maschiny with Siemens AG . In the same year he took over the majority in "Silowyje maschiny". In 2012 he acquired the company in full and took over a Siemens share package in the amount of the blocking minority of 25% + 1 share. EMAljans was also taken over. He holds a 25 percent stake in the German tourism group TUI . He has been a member of the supervisory board there since February 2016 and is considered a reliable businessman.
