Sanaa ( Arabic صنعاء, DMG Ṣanʿāʾ ) is one of the 21 governorates of Yemen . It is in the center of the country.
Sanaa has an area of 15,052 km² and approx. 1,042,468 inhabitants. This results in a population density of 69.3 inhabitants per km².
The capital of the governorate, Sanaa , is also the capital of Yemen. However, it is not part of the governorate, but as a separate capital district is surrounded by it as an enclave . The largest city in the governorate is Sayyan .
