- Mendig / Germany : A lightning strike at the Rock am Ring music festival seriously injured 15 visitors and slightly injured 56 others. Two concert goers had to be revived.
- Scottsdale / United States : Boxing champion Muhammad Ali passed away after a long period of illness.

- Bern / Switzerland : Five federal referendums : Popular initiative Pro Service public , popular initiative " For an unconditional basic income ", popular initiative "For fair transport financing" as well as amending the Reproductive Medicine Act (FMedG) on medically assisted reproduction and amending the Asylum Act (AsylG).
- Rome / Italy : In the mayoral elections in 1,342 municipalities, the MoVimento 5stelle town hall of party chairman Beppe Grillo achieved large increases in votes in almost all of the major cities involved in the election campaign. In Rome, the candidate Virginia Raggi captured around 35 percent of the vote and will be in the runoff election on June 19, 2016 against Roberto Giachetti from the Partito Democratico .

- Amman / Jordan : An assassin kills five employees of the Jordanian intelligence service GID in an office in the Palestinian refugee camp Baqa'a around 20 km north of the capital Amman.
- Aqtöbe / Kazakhstan : Around 20 armed, suspected Islamist extremists, attacked the gate to the military base and headquarters of the Western Military District and two arms shops. Four attackers, three soldiers, a security guard and a civilian are killed.
- Berlin / Germany : Joachim Gauck announces his waiver of a second term as Federal President . He cites his advanced age as the reason for this decision.
- Castries / St. Lucia : The parliamentary elections are held in St. Lucia .
- Engis / Belgium : At least three people die in the railway accident at Hermalle-sous-Huy .
- Hahn / Germany : The state of Rhineland-Palatinate is selling its 82.5 percent stake in Frankfurt-Hahn Airport to the Chinese company Shanghai Yiqian Trading Company . The state of Hesse remains a minority shareholder .
- Warsaw / Poland : The opening ceremony of the military exercise Anakonda 16 takes place at the Academy for National Defense . During the ten-day maneuver with around 31,000 soldiers, including 14,000 from the USA and 12,000 from Poland, 3,000 vehicles and tanks, 105 aircraft and helicopters, twelve ships from 18 NATO countries and five partner countries, a covert attack is to be carried out under the direction of General Marek Tomaszycki the east can be simulated. According to Defense Minister Antoni Macierewicz , the aim of the major maneuver was "to test the Alliance's ability to defend its eastern flank". The Bundeswehr leads a multinational pioneer unit near Chełmno under the leadership of the 130th Panzer Engineer Battalion .

- Istanbul / Turkey : At least 11 people are killed and 36 others are injured, some seriously, in a car bomb attack on a police bus in the Fatih district near the Vezneciler metro station. As with every attack in recent months, a news blackout was imposed. On June 10, the terrorist organization Freedom Falcons Kurdistan (TAK) committed to the attack.
- Klinzy / Russia : In response to the increasing confrontation with NATO , the Russian Defense Ministry has relocated the 28th motorized rifle division from Yekaterinburg to Klinzy and plans to further expand the military base. In addition, the 23rd motorized rifle division is to be ordered from Samara to Waluiki near the Ukrainian border.
- Nuremberg / Germany : After the house of the CSU member of the state parliament Michael Brückner was searched by the public prosecutor's office on charges of sexual abuse of minors, Brückner resigned from all his offices.
- United States : United States presidential primaries in the states of California, Montana, New Jersey, New Mexico, and South Dakota.

- Midyat / Turkey : In a car bomb attack on a police building in the Kurdish southeast, five people are killed and 51 others injured. Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım blames the banned Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) for the attack.
- Vienna / Austria : After the defeat of its candidate Norbert Hofer in the federal presidential election in Austria , the FPÖ filed a complaint about violations with the Constitutional Court.

- Baghdad / Iraq : At least 27 people are killed and more than 60 injured in two suicide attacks by the terrorist organization Islamic State (IS) in the capital. In Taji , around 25 kilometers north of Baghdad, an assassin drives his car loaded with explosives into a checkpoint of the Iraqi army . Seven civilians and five soldiers die.
- Dresden / Germany : The 64th Bilderberg Conference begins in the Hotel Taschenbergpalais .
- Lima / Peru : The result of the runoff to the presidential election on June 5th is announced. Then Pedro Pablo Kuczynski surprisingly prevails with 50.12 percent of the vote against Keiko Fujimori with 49.88 percent and is expected to take up his post on July 28, 2016.

- Damascus / Syria : In the Shiite suburb of Sajida Zainab, at least 20 people are killed and more than 20 other people are injured in two suicide bombings by the Islamic State (IS).
- Dhaka / Bangladesh : Following a series of murders and attacks on members of religious minorities, artists and intellectuals , the government carried out raids across the country and arrested more than 1,600 suspects. Among them officially 27 members of the banned dischihadist group Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB). Since June 7th, five alleged members of the JMB have been shot dead by the police.
- Jalalabad / Afghanistan : In the district of Haska Mina (Dih Bala) in the province of Nangarhar , district police chief Shah Mahmood and five other police officers as well as 11 IS fighters are killed in heavy firefights between attackers from the Islamic State (IS) on a police station .
- Marseille / France : Up to 35 people were injured in violent riots before and during the European Championship preliminary round match between England and Russia in Marseille, and the UEFA Executive Committee threatened to expel the two national football associations, The Football Association and Rossijski Futbolny Soyuz, if they repeated .
- Rome / Italy : In a total of 11 rescue missions, the Guardia Costiera , the European Union Naval Force - Mediterranean , the Maltese Migrant Offshore Aid Station (MOAS) and a private ship rescued a total of 1,300 boat refugees between Sicily and Libya in one day.

- Milan / Italy : A house collapse in the Italian metropolis claims 3 lives and at least two seriously injured.

- Paris / France : In a terrorist attack , a man in a suburb of Paris killed a police officer and took his family hostage. Special forces killed the attacker. Another body discovered in the house was the wife, who also worked for the police. The 3 year old child survived. The perpetrator confessed to the IS .
- Sursee / Switzerland : A house fire kills two and seven injured including three firefighters in the late evening. The cause has not yet been clarified.

- Birstall / Great Britain : The Labor MP Jo Cox is stabbed and shot down by the perpetrator Thomas Mair after a public consultation on the street. She dies a few hours later at Blackburn Road Medical Center . The motive is still unclear.
- Kampala / Uganda : Seven people, including three children, die in a rampage by a Ugandan sergeant in the Makindye Barracks.
- Kuda / Nigeria : 18 people died in an attack on a funeral in the Sambisa Forest of Adamawa state . The militant group Boko Haram is committed to the attack.
- Zagreb / Croatia : With the votes of the conservative HDZ and the left-wing alliance HR, the Croatian parliament expressed its mistrust of the independent Prime Minister Tihomir Orešković with a clear majority.

- Detmold / Germany : The Detmold regional court has sentenced the former concentration camp guard Reinhold Hanning to five years in prison for aiding and abetting murder in at least 170,000 cases. Whether the 94-year-old Hanning is liable is still pending .
- Fallujah / Iraq : The Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi has declared the liberation of the city from the terrorist organization Islamic State (IS). The Iraqi armed forces began their offensive in May with the support of US air strikes as part of Operation Inherent Resolve .
- Hamburg / Germany : The German company Siemens Wind Power announced the merger with the Spanish Gamesa , which also includes the energy company Iberdrola .
- London / United Kingdom : The extension of the Tate Gallery of Modern Art designed by the Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron is opened.
- Vienna / Austria : At its council meeting in Vienna, the World Athletics Association IAAF extended the exclusion of the Russian athletics association RusAF (Russian Athletics) for systematic and state-orchestrated doping from international competitions indefinitely . This means that no athletes flying the Russian flag will take part in the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil in August . Individual Russian athletes could, however, be admitted under a neutral flag.

- Purworejo / Indonesia : After persistent rain, the Bogowonto River overflows its banks and kills at least 24 people in Central Java . In Purworejo administrative district alone , 11 people died, and another 15 in the provinces of Sumatra , Java and East Nusa Tenggara .
- Riedenburg / Germany : If the ship Viking Bragi collides with the Sankt-Anna-Brücke on the Main-Danube Canal , the ship is damaged by € 800,000. The 170 passengers and 50 crew members were uninjured in the accident .

- Al-Rukban / Jordan : At least six Jordanian soldiers are killed and 14 other soldiers injured in a bomb attack in al-Mafraq governorate near a refugee camp on the Jordanian-Syrian border .
- Karlsruhe / Germany : The Federal Constitutional Court confirms the compatibility of the monetary policy outright transactions (bond purchases) of the European Central Bank (ECB) under Mario Draghi with the German Basic Law and thus adheres to a decision of the European Court of Justice (ECJ) from June 2015.

- Chengdu / China : With the ARJ20 jet , Chengdu Airlines transports 70 passengers from Chengdu-Shuangliu Airport to Shanghai-Hongqiao Airport, around 3,500 km away . It is the first scheduled flight of a passenger aircraft of the state aircraft manufacturer Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (Comac). This was preceded by a development period of 14 years.
