The Democratic Party (DP; Mongolian Ардчилсан нам, Ardchilsan Nam) is a political party in Mongolia . Your goals are the further transformation of Mongolia into a liberal, democratic and nationalist society and the fight against corruption.

Emergence

The Democratic Party was formed in 2000 from an association of the ultra-right National Democratic Party (MNDP; Монголын Yндэсний Ардчилсан Нам, МYАН, Mongolyn undesnii ardchilsan nam) and the Mongolian Social Democratic Party (MSDP; МалМонготелок). For its part, the MNDP was formed in 1990 from an amalgamation of several other parties, most of which went back directly to the democratic revolution of the same year.

Election results

The two founding parties held 50 of the 76 seats in parliament from 1996 to 2000, and formed a coalition government during this period. In the parliamentary elections on June 27 and July 17, 2004, the DP entered as part of the Motherland Democracy Alliance (Эх орон - Ардчилсан Эвсэл, Ech oron - Ardchilsan Ewsel). As the country's second largest political force, the alliance received 44.7% of the vote and 34 of the 76 seats. Party leader Tsachiagiin Elbegdordsch then became prime minister in a grand coalition with the MRVP, but had to resign in January 2006 in the course of the government reshuffle triggered by the MRVP.

In the presidential elections on May 20, 2005, the DP candidate Mendsaichaniin Enchsaichan received only 19.7% of the vote.

In the parliamentary elections on June 29, 2008, the Democratic Party of the ruling MRVP was defeated. After the defeat became known, DP chairman Elbegdordsch declared that there had been irregularities and that his party would not recognize the result. There were also violent clashes.

In the presidential election on May 24, 2009 Elbegdordsch prevailed with 51.24% of the votes against the incumbent Nambaryn Enchbajar and was sworn in as president on June 12, 2009.

In Mongolia's parliamentary elections in 2012 , the Democratic Party emerged victorious and formed a governing coalition with the Justice Coalition and the Green Party of Citizens' Will . In 2016 , she suffered a slight loss of votes and was unable to continue the governing coalition.

In 2017/2018 the Democratic Party won the presidential elections and its top candidate Chaltmaagiin Battulga became President of Mongolia.
