General election in Mongolia 2016
The Mongolian parliamentary elections in 2016 , in which the deputies of the Great State Churals of Mongolia were determined, took place on June 29, 2016. The turnout was around 74 percent. Previously, on May 5, 2016, the right to vote was changed by abolishing proportional representation . In addition, around 150,000 citizens living abroad were unable to vote.
Result
The Mongolian People's Party (MVP) emerged victorious with 45% of the vote. The Democratic Party (DP), which had formed a governing coalition with the Coalition of Justice and the Green Party of Citizens' Will since 2012 , suffered a slight loss of votes and was unable to continue the governing coalition. Due to the majority vote , the DP only got nine seats in parliament, while the Mongolian People's Party can govern alone again with 65 seats. The Coalition of Justice no longer stood for election.
