List of Presidents of Mongolia
The President of Mongolia is the head of state of Mongolia .
He has the following skills:
- He nominates a candidate for the office of Prime Minister who then has to be confirmed by the Great State Chural (Parliament). However, this task is largely a formality, since controversial candidates in Parliament are out of the question anyway.
- He has the right to veto parliamentary decisions, which he can overrule with a two-thirds majority.
- He confirms the appointment of judges.
- He chairs the National Security Council.
- He is in command of the Mongolian armed forces .
The president is elected directly by the people for a four-year term, with a limit of two terms. The candidates are nominated by the parties represented in parliament.
history
The office of president was created under this name only after democratization. The function as such also existed in the time of the communist Mongolian People's Republic . That is why the heads of state of this time are also referred to as presidents today.
Sometimes the Bogd Khan is also seen as the "President" of Mongolia. This was the spiritual leader of the country before the communist revolution. But, in general, the title only applies to subsequent secular heads of state. Sometimes Balingiin Tserendordsch Beise , the 1924 actually led the state power, also referred to as president, but the official count begins with Nawadordschiin Jadambaa , who was elected by the Great State Khural formally elected chairman. Just one day later, the management structure was reorganized and the chairman of the Small State Chural (the executive body of parliament) was made head of state. The Small State Chural was later dissolved, and the chairman of the Presidium of the Great State Chural was the head of state. Shortly thereafter, the name was changed, which also changed the title of head of state to chairman of the Great People's Chural . With the democratic constitution of 1990, the title of president was formally introduced.
