Kublai Khan's fleet

Historically, the Mongolian navy was one of the largest naval forces in the world during the time of Kublai Khan . Most of the fleet, however, sank during the Mongol invasions off Japan. The Mongolian Navy was re-established under Soviet rule in the 1930s. In addition, the "Sukhbaatar" (sunk), the "Sukhbaatar II" (sunk) and finally the Sukhbaatar III were put into service. The ships came from Soviet stocks and were transported overland. In 1990 the Mongolian navy's fleet consisted of a single ship, the Sukhbaatar III, which was stationed in Khatgal on Chöwsgöl Nuur . The navy last had 7 members; this made it the smallest marine in the world at the time. In 1997 the Sukhbaatar III was sold to private investors to operate in tourism. Since then, Mongolia has no more navy.
