The Lao armed forces are the military of Laos . The number of soldiers is 29,100.

The 130,000 soldiers are divided into an army and a river navy on the Mekong . The air force is not a separate branch of arms, but is part of the army.

The army has u. a. about tanks of predominantly Soviet or Russian production: 25 PT-76 battle tanks, 30 T-54 / T-55 battle tanks , 130 BTR-60P armored vehicles, 30 BTR-152 armored vehicles , 25 M8 reconnaissance tanks (the only armored vehicle made in the USA ) and 10 anti-aircraft tanks ZSU-23-4 .
