The armed forces of Abkhazia form the military of the internationally unrecognized Republic of Abkhazia .
History and structure
The Abkhazian armed forces were established in 1992 in connection with the outbreak of the Georgian-Abkhazian War .
They are divided into army , air force and navy . The strength of the force is around 3,000 to 5,000 soldiers.

The army is divided into three motorized infantry brigades and one artillery regiment .
It has 9 T-72 - Tank , 53 T-55 -Kampfpanzer, 7 BM-21 - multiple rocket launchers , 6 ZSU-23-4 - anti-aircraft armored and 116 armored vehicles.
air force
The Air Force 250 members has six Su-27 - fighter planes , three Su-25 - ground attack aircraft , an MiG-21 -Jagdflugzeug, five L-39 - trainer aircraft , two At-12 -Transportflugzeuge, three Mi-24/35 - combat helicopters and three Mi-8 - transport helicopter .

The Navy has three patrol boats and is stationed in Sukhumi , Otschamtschire and Pizunda .

Russian associations in Abkhazia
The Russian Army has 41 T-90 main battle tanks and 130 BTR-80 armored personnel carriers stationed in Gudauta with the 131st Motorized Rifle Brigade.
Opposing associations
The White Legion and the Forest Brotherhood with 200 to 300 members are aiming to destabilize Abkhazia and to re-join Georgia .
