Andrei Jurjewitsch Nepein ( Russian Андрей Юрьевич Непеин ; born June 28, 1962 in Dmitrow , Moscow Oblast ) is a former Soviet biathlete .

Career

Nepein began his sports career in cross-country skiing under coach Igor Antonowski . In 1979 he became Soviet Junior Champion. By Alexander Tikhonov , he was chosen shortly after the biathlon squad. In 1982 he won the Winter Universiade. It achieved its greatest international success in 1986 . He made his debut in the Biathlon World Cup at the start of the season in Antholz , where he was 28th of the individual. Two days later, behind Peter Angerer and ahead of Gisle Fenne , he achieved his first podium finish in the sprint. At the following World Cup station in Feistritz an der Drau , he won his only race in the biathlon World Cup with the sprint race ahead of André Sehmisch and Frank-Peter Roetsch . The only international championship was the 1986 Biathlon World Championships at Holmenkollen in Oslo , where Nepein was used in the sprint and finished the race in 18th place. In 1991 Nepein became national champion again before finally ending his career.

Nepein is married and has two children.
