Sergei Wassiljewitsch Antonow ( Russian Сергей Васильевич Антонов ) is a former Soviet biathlete and today's biathlon trainer.
Career
Antonov had his breakthrough at the Junior World Championships in 1984 in Chamonix-Mont-Blanc . In the individual he won the silver medal behind André Sehmisch and in front of Valery Medwedzew , in the sprint he won the title in front of Konstantin Waygin and André Sehmisch. Also in the relay race he won the title with Konstantin Waygin and Antipow ahead of the relays from Finland and the Federal Republic of Germany. This made him the most successful participant in these Junior World Championships. In the 1985/86 season he won the first race of the season, a single in Lahti , ahead of Frank-Peter Roetsch and Juha Tella . Also in the following season 1985/86 he ran in the first race of the World Cup season , a single in Antholz , behind Valeri Medwedzew and Gottlieb Taschler on the podium. At the second World Cup station in Feistritz an der Drau , he won his second World Cup race. He achieved a total of seven podium finishes between 1985 and 1988, including two wins. The only international championship was the 1986 Biathlon World Championships at Holmenkollen in Oslo , in which Antonov was used in singles and finished the race in 24th place.
Antonov now works as a biathlon trainer in Yekaterinburg .
