Standard of the President of Bangladesh

When it gained independence in 1971, Bangladesh assumed the form of a federal parliamentary republic, with a prime minister at the head of the government and a state president as head of state with predominantly representative tasks.

However, from 1975 until a popular uprising in 1990, several presidents of Bangladesh took office through military coups and ruled dictatorially. Since 1990, Bangladesh has returned to parliamentary democracy.

The residence of the president is the Bangabhaban in Dhaka . 1906 to 1911 it was the official seat of the governor of the province of East Bengal and Assam and from 1947 to 1971 the residence of the governor of East Pakistan .
