The following list contains all heads of state and deputy heads of state of the United Arab Emirates in chronological order since independence from Great Britain on December 2, 1971. The head of state or deputy head of state of the United Arab Emirates has the official title of President or Vice President .

The President and the Vice President will be every five years by the Supreme Herrscherrat, the Federal Supreme Council , whose members are the reigning emirs of the seven Emirates of Abu Dhabi , Ajman , Dubai , Fujairah , Ras al-Khaimah , Sharjah and Umm al-Quwain are new elected. Selectable would de jure all members, de facto, however, always selected the reigning emir of Abu Dhabi to the president and the acting Emir of Dubai vice-president.

The current president is Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan .
