List of rulers of Jordan
The list of rulers of Jordan includes the sovereign monarchs of the Kingdom of Jordan .
After the end of the Ottoman Empire in 1918, the state territory belonged to the Kingdom of Syria until it was annexed to the British Mandate of Palestine in 1920 . Still under British protection, the country was separated from Palestine in 1921 and became the emirate of Transjordan . After the country gained independence in 1946, Emir Abdallah ibn Hussein assumed the title of king. In 1949 the kingdom was given the still official name "Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan".
The royal house is provided by the Hashimite dynasty , the descendants of a great-grandfather of the Prophet Mohammed .
