Jatiya party

The Jatiya Party ( Bengali : জাতীয় পার্টি , "National Party") is a party in Bangladesh .

history

The party was founded on January 1, 1986 by the former dictator and president Hussain Muhammad Ershad . In the then parliamentary elections in 1986, it became the strongest representation with an absolute majority due to electoral fraud and the boycott by the two largest parties in the country. After the political overthrow of Ershads and the re-establishment of parliamentary democracy in Bangladesh , the Jatiya Party suffered heavy losses and is now one of the smaller parties. Nevertheless, she was involved in power several times in a row, alternately as a coalition partner of the two major parties.

In 1997 part of the party split off under the leadership of the minister Anwar Hossain Manju and has since formed the Jatiya Party (Manju) . In 2001 another split followed under the leadership of Naziur Rahman Manjur and Kazi Firoz Rashid, which has since appeared as the Jatiya Party (Naziur-Firoz) . To distinguish between these two factions, the remaining Jatiya Party is also known as the Jatiya Party (Ershad) .

In the 2008 elections to the Jatiyo Sangshad (National Parliament), the party received 30 seats out of 345. In the 2014 elections , the party received 11.3% of the vote and 34 out of 300 seats awarded through constituencies.
