AFM Ahsanuddin Chowdhury

Abul Fazal Mohammad "AFM" Ahsanuddin Chowdhury (born July 1, 1915 in Maimansingh , British India ; † August 30, 2001 in Dhaka , Bangladesh ) was President of the Republic of Bangladesh from 1982 to 1983 and a member of the Jatiya Party .

biography

Chowdhury studied at the University of Dhaka Law and graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from. He entered the public justice service in 1942 and worked as a district judge in the major cities of Sylhet , Rangpur and Dhaka . In December 1968, he was appointed judge of the Dhaka Supreme Court by then President Muhammed Ayub Khan . In January 1974 he became a Supreme Court judge in the new Republic of Bangladesh. In July 1977 he resigned from his judicial office.

In March 1982, General Hossain Mohammad Ershad overthrew President Abdus Sattar and installed Chowdhury as the new President, but at the same time retained de facto power in the state. In December 1983 Ershad finally took over the office of President himself.

Chowdhury died in 2001. He belonged to Islam .
