Taurianova is an Italian city in the metropolitan city of Reggio Calabria in Calabria with 15,280 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).

Location and dates

Taurianova is 65 km northeast of Reggio Calabria in the Gioia plain. The neighboring municipalities are Cittanova , Molochio , Oppido Mamertina , Rizziconi , Terranova Sappo Minulio , Varapodio . The place consists of the districts of San Martino di Taurianova, Amato, Pegara, Donna Livia.

The place was created in 1928 by the union of the cities of Radicena and Latrinoli. Taurianova is an agriculture and industry center for the area. In agriculture, tropical fruits, olives and red wine are produced. Tourism is growing.

Attractions

The Madonna del Rosario church was restored after the 1783 earthquake. It has a baroque portal, inside there are Renaissance sculptures. In the Church of the Immacolata there are marble statues from the late Renaissance.

At the end of June 2016, Ernesto Fazzialari, who had been wanted internationally for twenty years, was arrested here. He was considered the number two of the 'Ndrangheta .
