Seminara is an Italian city in the metropolitan city of Reggio Calabria in Calabria with 2609 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).

Location and dates

Seminara is 48 km north of Reggio Calabria on the northern slope of Aspromonte . The neighboring communities are Bagnara Calabra , Gioia Tauro , Melicuccà , Oppido Mamertina , Palmi , Rizziconi , San Procopio . The place consists of the main town Seminara and the two districts S. Anna di Seminara and Barritteri. The inhabitants live mainly from agriculture and handicrafts.

During 1908 Messina earthquake , the city was destroyed and then rebuilt. This gives it a regular road network.

Attractions

In the village, the community palace is worth seeing. In the churches of S. Michele and S. Antonio there are statues from the 16th century.

Ceramics from Seminara

Seminara is known beyond the regional borders for the idiosyncratic ceramics , which are made exclusively by hand in a long, most likely Greek tradition. Most famous are the maschere , which are supposed to keep the malocchio , the evil eye, away .
