Samo (in the Graeco-Calabrian dialect Samu ) is a southern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 763 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the metropolitan city of Reggio Calabria in Calabria . The municipality is located about 36 kilometers east of Reggio Calabria on La Verde in the Aspromonte National Park .

The founding of the village is documented for the year 492 BC as a Greek colony, which had its origin on the island of Samos .
